The announcement for the 2014 Acoustical Society of America Student Design Competition has been released. The competition involves the design of a secondary school/high school Fine Arts building with diverse programming. Teams must register by April 1, 2014, and final entries that are not hand-delivered at the conference are due by April 30, 2014. More information can be found here.

2014 Schultz Grant Applications due January 31, 2014
The next Theodore John Schultz Grant is expected to be awarded in 2014, with applications due by January 31, 2014. Applicants should send a curriculum vitae, a letter describing how the grant will be used, and an outline budget indicating expenses for which support is being sought. Adelgren from Vassar College receives 2013 Newman Medal
Congratulations to Jacob Adelgren from Vassar College, for being awarded a 2013 Newman Student Award Medal, for work on the effect of boundary diffusers in a reverberation chamber. Adelgren was nominated by Prof. David T. Bradley.
Inoue from Tokyo Institute of Technology receives 2013 Newman Medal
Congratulations to Mizuki Inoue from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, for being awarded a 2013 Newman Student Award Medal, for work on a commendation-winning entry to the 2013 ASA Student Design Competition. Mizuki was nominated by Prof. Yasushi Shimizu.
Connick from RPI receives 2013 Newman Medal
Congratulations to Robert Connick from RPI! He has been awarded a 2013 Newman Student Award Medal, for his work on characterizing normal-incident sound transmission loss of nanomaterial aerogels, as nominated by Prof. Ning Xiang.
Batungbakal from University of Southern California receives 2013 Newman Medal
Congratulations to Aireen Batungbakal from the University of Southern California! She has been awarded a 2013 Newman Student Award Medal, for her work on developing a design support tool on the acoustic performance of double-skin facades, as nominated by Prof. Douglas Noble. (As an interesting sidenote, Aireen’s thesis advisor on this work was Elizabeth Valmont, a former recipient of the Newman Medal herself!)
Arce from Roger Williams University receives 2013 Newman Medal
Congratulations to David Arce from Roger Williams University! He has been awarded a 2013 Newman Student Award Medal, for his acoustical analysis of a religious worship space within a Catholic church located in Providence, Rhode Island. David was nominated by Prof. Jeffrey Staats.

Siebein video demonstrating acoustics with scale models now available
A 36 minute video produced in 1990 by Professor Gary W. Siebein, “Demonstration of Basic Acoustical Principles using Scale Models” with funding from a Schultz Grant, has now been converted from VHS and posted onto YouTube! Enjoy!
