Congratulations to Ian Patrick and Robert Healey from the University of Kansas, for being awarded 2014 Newman Student Award Medals, for work on “Investigations into the Sound Absorbing Properties of Gypsum Wall Board”, which the two presented at the recent ASA Conference in Providence.  Patrick and Healey were nominated by Prof. Bob Coffeen.

Congratulations to Ashwin Thomas from the Georgia Institute of Technology, for being awarded a 2014 Newman Student Award Medal.  Thomas was nominated by Prof. Erica Ryherd, for work simulated and laboratory models of aircraft sound transmission in residences.

Congratulations to Yun Jae Sohn from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) for being awarded a 2014 Newman Student Award Medal.  Sohn was nominated by Prof. Umberto Berardi, for work on improving speech intelligibility of classrooms at WPI.

Congratulations to Zhao ‘Ellen’ Peng from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, for being awarded a 2014 Newman Student Award Medal, for her doctoral research on how room acoustics impacts speech comprehension by English-as-Second-Language listeners.  Peng was nominated by Prof. Lily Wang.

Dr. Michelle Vigeant presented the Newman Medal to Acadia Kocher at the ASA Providence conference

Congratulations to Acadia Kocher who has been awarded a 2014 Newman Student Award Medal. Kocher investigated subjective components of overall acoustic quality using binaural recordings made in Hartford’s Belding Theater, as a summer undergraduate research assistant at Penn State University.  Kocher was nominated by Prof. Michelle Vigeant.

Congratulations to Zachary Nasipak from Vassar College, for being awarded a 2014 Newman Student Award Medal.  Nasipak was nominated by Dr. Kimberly Riegel and Prof. David T. Bradley, for work on numerical prediction of sound scattering from surfaces with fractal geometry.

Congratulations to Christina Higgins from London South Bank University, for being awarded a 2014 Newman Student Award Medal, for “An Investigation into the Helmholtz Resonators of the Queen Elizabeth Hall, London”.  Higgens was nominated by Dr. Stephen Dance, and is shown in the accompanying photo with Peter Mapp.

Congratulations to Yiying Hao from the University of Sheffield, for being awarded a 2014 Newman Student Award Medal, for doctoral work on the effects of urban morphology on urban sound environment from the perspective of masking effects.  Hao was nominated by Prof. Jian Kang.
